Yosa Buson (与謝蕪村, 1716-1784) was, as well as being one of the most influential haiku poets of the Edo period, also a renowned painter. And Buson’s sense of color and imagery is often featured in his haiku.
This poem speaks to me particularly here in Western Washington. The spring rains are a swirl of the whites of the clouds, the green of the windblown evergreens, the blue of the water. All this motion and washing of colors promising the green garden plants to thrive.
