This mixed media piece features the Miroku Bosatsu (Maitreya Bodhisattva from the Sanskrit “loving-kindness”) and this famous Tanka by Okura.

The art is on handmade Western-style paper. The background paper is aquamarine and the foreground paper is a light purple. The art includes foam core backing and is ready to be framed in a standard 8 x 10″ frame.

This art piece is written using hentaigana as would be used in the Heian Period. Hentaigana is a combination of kanji and an early form of hiragana.

白金も
こ可ねも玉農
な尓せんニ
まされるた可ら
子にし可免やも
shirogane mo
kogane mo tama mo
nani sen ni
masareru takara
ko ni shikame yamo
What are silver,
gold or jewels to me?
There is no more
valuable treasure
than a child.
