Haiku Art
Haiku is the Japanese poetic art of capturing a moment. In these short traditionally 5-7-5 syllables are captured a vignette that can speak to us across the centuries and touch our common humanity.
Here I have collected my favorite haiku and designs. I tend to favor deeply meaningful works with a backstory. For example, the poem here by Basho was his last poem. Falling ill in his travels, from his deathbed, he dreamed to be once again wandering the Japanese countryside. Basho’s was a life lived to the fullest and this poem is a reminder to me to make every day and every experience one to treasure.
This will be the place where we also document and discuss each poem in detail. This is very much a work in progress, though I am hoping that the haiku lover will enjoy not only the beautiful calligraphy but also the detailed translations and references offered for each piece. This Haiku Art section is truly a labor of love.

I am Romantic as this is the third page with the topic of love and romance on this website. Elsewhere I have suggestions for anniversary gifts and wedding gifts. Here I wanted to focus on Japanese Calligraphy Art that is specially for the couple to enjoy together.
